Lune RCC Reliability Ride – The Coal Road Challenge 2014

Coal Road1 Sunday 2nd March. Starting from Bull Beck Picnic Site, CATON. Total distance 67miles.


The riders, in 3 graded groups, go via Wray, High Bentham, Ingleton, Ribble Head and Hawes. The next section is to Garsdale Head, which is the halfway control where riders must stop to sign in.

Next riders face the climb of the Coal Road, which reaches nearly 500 metres and is the high point of the route.

Following a steep descent, and beyond Dent village, riders climb over to Barbondale and then go by Casterton and Kirkby Lonsdale. The final miles are via Whittington, Arkholme and Gressingham and then through Hornby to return to the finish at Bull Beck.

START AND FINISH Bull Beck Picnic Site is on the A683, 3 miles from Jnc 34 M6 just beyond Caton, with parking, toilets and a Snack Bar. GR 542,650. Full route details will be available at the start.

Entry £5 pay on the day *This Reliability Ride is aimed at regular club cyclists.*

There are three start times to suit different abilities.

8-30 ‘S1’ for older Club riders and those wishing to ride in a steady paced group.

9-05 ‘S2’ for faster Club and Sportive riders

9-20 ‘S3’ for racing members
