Circuit of the Lune ValleyAfter last weeks flirtatious with hypothermia it felt positively tropical as temperatures reached double figures for Lancaster cc’s round of the Lakes and Lancs Spoco league.
After a swift kick up the backside after last weeks debacle, I managed to arrive at signing on in plenty of time and was soon out warming up with my team mate Andy Horrobin. Warming up is where you find out how your legs feel, and after riding only 20 miles in the last week mine felt like lumps of wood. There’s not much you can do, just work them hard to get the blood flowing and hope they loosen up a bit, and be wary of it during the race. In the race itself, previous concerns were confirmed. The lack if flexibility meant keeping a very steady rhythm. Still conditions helped and it was only the climbs out of Arkholme and up from the Red Well that upset the rhythm.
4th place was my reward for the days effort, about a minute down on winner Paul Grindley from Liverpool Century RC, with team mate Andy coming in around a minute later in 6th place.
Next stop is the Ribble Valley CRC circuit of Longridge Fell on Sunday.Adi
